European Union: CE + RoHS + REACH
The CE mark is mandatory for all electrical products sold in the EU. It's not a single certification — it encompasses multiple directives: LVD (Low Voltage Directive) for electrical safety, EMC Directive for electromagnetic compatibility, and RoHS for restriction of hazardous substances.
REACH compliance is also required for the EU market. You need a Declaration of Conformity (DoC) for each product, backed by test reports from a notified body.
United States: FCC + UL
FCC certification is mandatory for anything with a switching circuitry — which covers all chargers. UL listing is technically voluntary, but major retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart) require it for listing. Without UL, you simply can't sell through mainstream US channels.
Japan: PSE
The PSE mark is mandatory for electrical products in Japan. Most chargers fall under the stricter Denan category, which requires assessment by a registered conformity assessment body. This adds complexity but ensures rigorous safety standards.
China: CCC and CB Scheme
China Compulsory Certification (CCC) is required for chargers sold in the Chinese domestic market. The process takes 4-8 weeks and requires factory inspection. The CB Scheme (IEC System for Conformity Testing) provides a pathway to multiple national certifications through a single test report — valuable for brands selling globally.
